Activated Tri Base Pelletized Carbon In my experience in marine fish and reef keeping I found a carbon that outperforms all other carbons out there. It's called Activated Tri Base Pelletized Carbon. I first purchased 2 bags sizes 8" X 16". I also purchased 2 bags of the Activated Tri Base Pelletized Carbon and rinsed them out very well. This part is very important. I then filled both 8" X 16" bags (actually there woven net bags) with the carbon. I placed them in my sump under where the water from my tank is coming into the sump. Then I used 100 micron socks to catch any small particles. After I did this, my tank has been crystal clear and does not even smell like fish. Also the Activated Tri Base Pelletized Carbon forms nitrification bacteria. It's actually works as a Biological filter. Now every month I will switch bags of carbon and rinse out the bottom bag and take the bottom bag and put it on the top. I do this switch and rinse every month. I would not use any other carbon. One more thing you should know. This carbon can last up to 5 years before a replacement is necessary.
